We have owned and loved the Chinese Shar-pei since 1993.We started while we were living the UK. We eventually moved to the US in 2000. Originally seeking to purchase an English Bulldog we stumbled across the Shar-pei at a vet clinic while taking our cats in for a visit. There was a 14 month old male puppy  looking attentively at the floor. We fell in love. The owner said he had seen an ad for one for sale at the local post office and told us to go check it out. Well we did just that, and  later that month we became proud owners of a brown Horsecoat bitch named "Cuddles" (we later found out she was the litter sister to the puppy at the vet) She was a old style Horsecoat with a nervous disposition , she thought she was a cat, but we loved her and she loved us. She had one litter for us and unfortunately  was stolen. In our first litter, Cuddles had a C-Section and 3 little wonders entered our lives. In that litter we had all Horsecoat,2 bitches and a dog, One Cream, One Red and a Black and Tan. We were over the  moon. We parted with the second pick and a stud fee and we kept the red fawn Horsecoat Flame, the black and tan was sold unregistered in to a pet home. Flames was to be my new show dog but she jumped out of our 1st floor window and was permanently injured and was unable to compete seriously. After Cuddles was stolen Rippley entered our lives she was an Apricot Dilute Horsecoat . She was a real sweetie she whelped one litter of puppies in her life( Unfortunately Rippley later succumbed to Amyloidosis in October 1998 after having had several SHS and FSF episodes in her life). Later in the year 1994 after Flames traumatic accident Boo Boo's came to Mingtime she was purchased as a top quality show dog but she was unable to walk properly and was spayed and remained with us till her untimely death in 1999. Since the beginning we have loved and valued Horsecoats. We have chosen to focus our breeding program towards improving the long neglected Horsecoat. We believe that as the foundation of our breed Horsecoats are to be revered.

Since our beginnings in Shar-pei we have tried to make health our priority. As Shar-pei fanciers we look forward to continuing the improvement of these wonderful dogs.
